Additional activities (Visit of Africa CDC Africa central region)
In July, YOWLI BURUNDI hosted two visits from the Africa CDC Africa central region coordination. The first visit involved the Africa CDC Africa central region program manager, accompanied with Africa CDC Burundi office staff, who visited YOWLI BURUNDI.

YOWLI BURUNDI briefed them the state of the project implementation before the Africa CDC team shares the overview of the SLL program focusing on pharmacovigilance. They appreciated what YOWLI BURUNDI has already achieved and provided meaningful insights to keep on the track to achieve the project’s goals. The second visit was carried by two seniors from the Africa CDC Africa central region accompanied by the Africa CDC Burundi office team. They visited YOWLI BURUNDI, ABREMA, and PEV offices before they went to visit three surveillance site sentinels (CDS Kinyinya, CDS Gitega, and CMC Kibuye).

They noticed the sites have notification tools including registers and tablets in addition to have been trained on pharmacovigilance. Minor challenges noted include lack of community awareness, no feedback regarding healthcare providers’ notifications and only two healthcare providers have been trained per site. The Africa CDC team suggested that ABREMA should provide feedback to health facility and seek a way to train more health professionals. For the community awareness, YOWLI BURUNDI ensured there will be a dissemination of IEC materials (which was done early August 2025) and broadcast an audiovisual spot to raise pharmacovigilance awareness.
